Regarded by many as Europe’s leading five-star hotel, spa and country club resort, Stoke Park is located just half an hour from London’s West End and seven miles from Heathrow Airport. Stoke Park provides for a convenient luxury getaway any time of the yea, and is perfectly situated for quick stopovers during business or leisure trips to London. After operating as a private club for over 90 years, the property underwent a $33 million restoration and renovation before opening as a hotel in December 1998. Its five-star hotel is set within 350 acres of beautiful parkland, gardens and lakes. The hotel has 49 luxuriously-appointed bedrooms, with 21 more traditional rooms in The Mansion, and 28 contemporary, boutique style rooms in The Pavilion, all built in a style that complements the history of the house, while incorporating all of the modern amenities for the traveller. ISDN lines, satellite TV, direct-dial telephones and marble bathrooms with heated floors are standard.
Facilities also include nine meeting and private entertainment rooms, the award-winning Stoke Park Spa by SPC, three Restaurants (Humphry’s has 3 AA Rosettes), first-class health and racquet facilities (including 13 tennis courts) a crèche and much more besides.
Stoke Poges Golf Club was founded at Stoke Park in 1908 and has established and maintained a reputation as one of the finest parkland courses in the world. The 27-hole championship course was designed by famed golf architect Harry Shapland Colt. Colt and his partners worked on over 300 golf courses around the world including at St Andrews in Scotland, Royal Portrush in Ireland, Wentworth in England, and Pine Valley in the United States. Recently, Stoke Poges was chosen from over 2,200 clubs in the British Isles as Golf Club of the Year by the largest-selling golf course review book, Following the Fairways.
Stoke Park has also featured in numerous films, among them Bridget Jones’ Diary and James Bond movies Tomorrow Never Dies and Goldfinger; in the latter, henchman Oddjob famously decapitates a statue as Bond (Sean Connery) and his adversary Goldfinger putt on a green in front of the former stately home.
